多棱球属 Stenocactus
生长于墨西哥北部和中部，约10个种。它现在包括原来的Hertrichocereus属和Echinofossulocactus属某些物种。大多小球状，10厘米，一般单独一个球生长，年龄大了会生小球，变成群生。名称echinofossulocactus来自拉丁美洲的'Echinocactus的小沟'，指的是小皱纹从上方的乳突状。大众化称呼波仙人掌，也称为脑仙人掌，如此命名是因为其大量的起伏凌。（国人也称呼其千波万波，我看数过100个波都没有嘛，怎么千万都来了。）该属不能自花授粉，需要同时几个球开花才能授粉，但是种子容易发芽。
这个属物种与物种之间很相近,一个物种播种出来的刺也不一定完全象母本,甚至象其他物种,以至于分类图鉴不是很明显,最近国际分类学家将对这些物种进行DNA分类.
